A provincial governor in Afghanistan says the bodies of two German citizens who were reported missing in the northern province of Parwan last month have been found.
Baseer Salangi said the bodies were found Monday.
Additional details about the discovery were not immediately available.
German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle had said his government was following up on indications the two had been abducted.
Afghan police said last month the Germans disappeared after they left their driver to go hiking in the mountains near the Salang Pass.
In an unrelated incident, five civilians were killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded next to their vehicle in Afghanistan's northwestern Faryab province.
