Authorities at the earthquake-damaged Washington National Cathedral on Thursday said that September 11th anniversary ceremonies will be relocated because a crane collapsed while doing repairs.
U.S. President Barack Obama is scheduled to appear at Sunday's “Concert of Hope,” which will now be held at the Kennedy Center performing arts venue.
A Friday concert honoring the September 11th victims, survivors, emergency responders, and their families will also be moved from the cathedral to the Kennedy Center.
Several spires of the Gothic-style National Cathedral were damaged during the August 23 earthquake that rocked the U.S. eastern coast. On Wednesday, a crane repairing the damage collapsed in a heavy thunderstorm. Several vehicles and buildings were damaged, but no one was seriously hurt.
Both the National Cathedral and the Kennedy Center are Washington landmarks.
Since the earthquake, the cathedral has held its Sunday worship services at a nearby synagogue.
