The new Miss Universe says she will use her crown to help her home country of Angola.
Twenty-five-year-old Leila Lopes was named Miss Universe 2011 Monday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She beat out 88 other contestants to become the first Angolan to win the coveted title.
Afterward, Lopes said that as Miss Angola she already was doing a lot to help her people, such as working with poor children, the elderly and people with HIV.
She said she tries to do everything to meet her country's needs, and that as Miss Universe, she will able to do a lot more.
Lopes succeeds 2010 Miss Universe Ximena Navarette of Mexico.
Miss Ukraine, Olesia Stefanko, was named first runner-up, which means she will assume the title of Miss Universe if Lopes cannot fulfill her duties. Brazil's Priscila Machado was second runner-up, followed by Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup, and Miss China, ZiLin Luo.
