Officials in Angola say 17 people died Wednesday when a military plane crashed while trying to take off from the airport in the central city of Huambo.
The Angolan Armed Forces released a statement Thursday saying 11 military officials and six civilians were among the dead. The pilots and crew survived the crash. The civilian dead included two women and two children.
Officials had previously reported that 30 people died in the crash.
The Angolan Air Force turbo-prop plane, built by Brazilian aircraft-maker Embraer, was carrying a delegation of high-ranking Angolan military officers.
