A court in the West African nation of Togo has sentenced the half-brother of President Faure Gnassingbe to 20 years in prison for leading a failed 2009 coup.
Kpatcha Gnassingbe is the former defense minister. Another coup leader also got a 20 year prison term, while other suspects got lesser sentences.
Kpatcha Gnassingbe masterminded a plot to seize power during the president's planned trip to China in April, 2009.
Security forces tipped off the president, who canceled his trip. Police arrested his half-brother when he tried to seek asylum at the U.S. embassy in Lome.
