Multiple bombs shook Thailand Friday, killing three people and wounding at least 50 in the country's violence-plagued south.

Thai officials say the first bomb was hidden on a motorbike and blew up outside a Chinese community organization in the Sungai Golok district of Narathiwat province. They say that blast was quickly followed by two others along a nearby street lined with bars and hotels.

Authorities say those two bombs appear to have been hidden on a motor and in a car.

Southern Narathiwat province is one of three Muslim-dominated provinces bordering Malaysia.

More than 4,600 people have been killed in violence in southern Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat provinces since a Muslim insurgency began there in January of 2004.
