U.S. stock indexes advanced modestly Friday, a day after markets plunged.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose four-tenths of percent to end at 10,771. The S&P 500 jumped six-tenths of a percent to hit 1,136 while the NASDAQ rose 1.1 percent to close at 2,483.
European stock markets closed higher.
London's Financial Times 100 index climbed half a percent to close at 5,067. The CAC-40 in Paris ended up one percent to close at 2,810. The DAX in Frankfurt advanced six-tenths of a percent to close at 5,197.
In Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index dropped 1.4 percent , to end at 17,669. Japanese markets were closed Friday for a national holiday.
The price of gold plunged nearly $99 to trade at $1,641.66 an ounce.
The U.S. dollar is higher against the yen, but declined compared to the euro.
