Major Asian stock markets closed higher Tuesday.

Tokyo's Nikkei index rose nearly three percent to finish at 8,610.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index soared over four percent to finish the day's trading at 18,131.

Share prices were also higher in Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei and Wellington, The index in Manila was closed.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.47 yen, a gain of just over one-tenth of a yen from Monday.

Gold is trading at $1,665.57 an ounce.
