Saudi Ambassador to the United States Adel Al-Jubeir, a target of an alleged Iranian-backed assassination plot, is a seasoned diplomat well-known in the West.

Born in 1962 in Al Majma'ah in Saudi Arabia, Al-Jubeir attended schools in the kingdom, Germany, Yemen, Lebanon and the United States.

In 1987, he joined Saudi Arabia's diplomatic service and was posted to the Saudi Embassy in Washington, where he served as Special Assistant to then-Ambassador Prince Bandar bin Sultan.

During the first Gulf War in 1991, Al-Jubeir became the face of Saudi Arabia when he was appointed a government spokesman.

In 2000, he became Director of the Saudi Information and Congressional Affairs office at the embassy in Washington. Later that year, he was named Foreign Affairs Advisor in the Crown Prince's Court, and in August 2005 was appointed to the position of Advisor at the Royal Court.

In January 2007, Adel Al-Jubeir was appointed as Saudi ambassador to the U.S. A month later, he presented his credentials to then-President George W. Bush at the White House.
