Afghan officials say police clashed with Iranian security forces Wednesday in western Afghanistan near the border between the two countries.
The police chief of Nimroz province Abdul Jabar said the clashes lasted about two hours and wounded one civilian. At least six mortars reportedly have been fired from the Iranian side of the border.
It is not clear what caused the incident. However, Khaama Press quoted Jabar as saying the clashes started after Iranian border forces allegedly were looking to set up checkpoints inside Afghanistan.
Afghan and Iranian security forces have clashed several times in the area in the past.
