Asian stock markets closed mixed Friday.

Tokyo's Nikkei index lost nine-tenths of a percent , to close at 8,747.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index dropped 1.36 percent , to end at 18,502.

Elsewhere, share prices were lower in Shanghai, Taipei, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Wellington. Markets closed higher in Seoul, Mumbai, Singapore, Bangkok and Manila.

The U.S. dollar was quoted at 77.03 yen, up a tenth of a yen from late Thursday.

Gold was trading at $1,675.68 an ounce.
