NATO says one of its service members was killed in an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan Saturday. Neither the name nor the nationality of the soldier was released.
In southern Helmand province Saturday, Afghan and coalition forces killed several militants and detained another one during an operation to disrupt an insurgent network.
NATO said the joint patrol seized 200 kilograms of opium, narcotics processing equipment and 30 kilograms of explosives during the raid.
In neighboring Kandahar and eastern Ghazni provinces, Afghan and NATO patrols seized large caches of weapons. A NATO statement said all the weapons and narcotics were safely destroyed on site.
