WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has made an application to appeal his extradition from Britain to Sweden on sex charges.

The application was filed to Britain's Supreme Court Tuesday after the High Court in London ruled November 2 that Assange should be sent to Sweden to face rape and sexual assault allegations.

The High Court judges will determine if Assange should be allowed a final appeal to the Supreme Court. At a December 5 hearing, his lawyers must convince the High Court that the case is of special public interest. If Assange's request for another Supreme Court appeal is denied he could be extradited to Sweden within 10 days of a decision.

The 40-year-old Assange, who is free on bail, says the sex was consensual. He has denied any wrongdoing and says the allegations are politically motivated. Swedish prosecutors have not charged Assange with any crime, but want him to return to face questioning in the case.

WikiLeaks has released hundreds of thousands of classified documents lifted from the computer files of U.S. diplomatic and military operations.

U.S. authorities are investigating whether Assange broke any laws.

Last month Assange said his organization is suspending the publishing of secret documents in order to concentrate on fundraising to ensure its future survival. Assange said a financial blockade by American companies such as Visa, Mastercard and PayPal means WikiLeaks will have to aggressively focus on raising money.
