Philippine prosecutors said in a court hearing Friday that they want former president Gloria Arroyo held in a detention center after a doctor said she is well enough to be released from the hospital.
Government lawyer Maria Juana Valleza asked the court to order Ms. Arroyo's transfer to a detention facility at a Manila police station after the former president's doctor, Mario Ver testified that she could be put on outpatient status for a spinal disease.
One of Ms. Arroyo's lawyers, Jay Flaminiano, said he would seek house arrest for his client.
The 64-year-old former president is accused of rigging votes in 2007 senatorial elections. She denies the allegations.
