Attorneys for a hotel maid who accused former IMF Chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn of raping her have dismissed accusations against her in a new book.
The French author of the book, Michel Taubmann, portrays maid Nafissatou Diallo as part of a conspiracy to derail Strauss-Kahn's political aspirations.
Before his May arrest in New York City, Strauss-Kahn was considered a leading candidate to run for president of France next year.
In book excerpts published in Paris Match magazine Thursday, Strauss-Kahn calls his encounter with Diallo a “stupid consensual relationship.”
Attorneys for Diallo, who accused Strauss-Kahn of attacking her in his hotel suite, have rejected the book as “complete fantasy.”
The writer claims the book is based on several interviews with Strauss-Khan, who was acquitted of the charges after prosecutors said Diallo lied about some specifics of the case.
Diallo's civil case against Strauss-Kahn has not been presented in court.
In a separate case, a French writer in October decided to drop civil rape charges against the former IMF chief.
Tristane Banon initially said she was considering a civil case after prosecutors dropped rape charges against Strauss-Khan.
