United Nations officials said gunmen have killed one international peacekeeper and injured three others in Sudan's restive Darfur region.

Gunmen on Saturday ambushed the joint U.N.- African Union patrol near the El Daein in South Darfur.

Darfur rebel groups launched an uprising against the government in 2003, accusing Khartoum of neglecting their region.

The U.N. estimates that at least 300,000 people have died because of the conflict since then. The government puts the total number of dead at 10,000.
