The European Union on Friday eased some sanctions against Burma in consideration of political reforms that have taken place in the isolated country.

The Council of the European Union said in a press release Friday that it has suspended admission restrictions on 87 top Burmese officials, including the president, vice presidents and members of parliament and their family members.

However, the statement said those individuals remain subject to a freeze of their assets within the EU.

A review of all EU sanctions on Burma is ongoing, given that they are due to expire on April of 2012.
