Denmark's intelligence service says three men have been arrested near the Danish capital on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack.

The Danish Security and Intelligence Service said in a statement the men were arrested Friday at two addresses in the Copenhagen area.

It said they have been charged with illegal possession of automatic weapons and ammunition, and are also “suspected of having been in the process of preparing an act of terror.” No further details were given.

The agency says the men are a 22-year-old Jordanian citizen, a 23-year-old Turkish citizen and a 21-year-old Danish citizen who lives in Egypt.

The arrests come as four other men stand trial in Denmark for allegedly plotting to attack the offices of a Danish newspaper that published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in 2005.
