Rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo have taken control of an eastern town from fleeing government troops – their second such seizure since Friday.

Representatives of the M23 rebel movement said they took Rutshuru around midday Sunday without any fighting.

A rebel leader told reporters M23 will take more towns until the government agrees to negotiations.

The group is made up of former soldiers who mutinied earlier this year. They are believed to be loyal to Bosco Ntaganda, a militia leader wanted by the International Criminal Court on war crimes charges.
