The speaker of Egypt's lower house of parliament plans to reconvene the assembly Tuesday in defiance of orders by the country's military council and Supreme Court.
The move follows a decree by President Mohamed Morsi reinstating parliament after military leaders dissolved the body last month because of election irregularities.
The Supreme Court upheld the powerful military's decision, and reaffirmed Monday that its ruling is final and binding. The court is expected to rule Tuesday on several appeals to the president's decree.
Supporters of Mr. Morsi are calling for a million-man march in Cairo Tuesday to support his decision.
