Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday marks the 17th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslim men and boys at the hands of Bosnian Serb forces.

People from across the nation and elsewhere are gathering near the eastern Bosnian town — the site of Europe's worst case of mass murder since World War II.

The central event will be the burial of recently identified remains of 520 victims. Organizers expect more than 30,000 to attend.

U.S. President Barack Obama called Srebrenica “a brazen act of genocide that shocked the world.” He issued a statement rejecting any effort to deny that the killings were a genocide.
