In canoe, slalom-singles competition, France's Tony Estanguet moved through choppy waters to win his third Olympic gold medal.

Also, China won its third gold medal in women's synchronized diving.

Later Tuesday, American Michael Phelps could become the first male swimmer to win a gold medal in the same event in three straight Olympic games when he competes in the 200-meter butterfly.

A medal would also tie him with former Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina on the all-time Olympic list with 18 career medals.

China and the United States are far ahead in the medal count at the London Olympics.
