U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to meet with former South African president Nelson Mandela in his home village Monday, as she continues a tour of Africa.

Clinton will spend several days in South Africa, with an agenda that includes talks with government officials, as well as her private meeting the the country's anti-apartheid hero.

She traveled there from Malawi, where on Sunday she praised President Joyce Banda for making key reforms since taking office in April.

Clinton said Ms. Banda's reforms have helped boost the impoverished country's economy. The reforms prompted the United States to restore aid to Malawi.

Ms. Banda took power after the sudden death of her predecessor, Bingu wa Mutharika. She is Malawi's first woman president.

Ms. Banda said she had looked forward to meeting Clinton, and that they both have long been advocates for women and children.

After her stop in South Africa, the U.S. envoy will travel to Nigeria, Benin and Ghana.

Clinton's trip has already included stops in Senegal, Uganda, South Sudan and Kenya.
