The chief of Guinea's treasury has been assassinated.

Gunmen opened fire on Aissatou Boiro's car Friday night in Conakry, the capital. Boiro was investigating an alleged plot by high-ranking officials to embezzle nearly $2 million from the Treasury.

A Guinean government official told the French news agency that the murder was nothing more than other government officials settling a dispute.
