Officials in Bangladesh say police have used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse road-blocking protesters at opposition rallies across the capital.
Authorities say the police clashed with demonstrators in Dhaka Sunday after the protesters attacked vehicles with homemade bombs.
A coalition of opposition parties staged the protests to call for the restoration of a voting system in which independent caretaker governments oversee national elections. The protesters want the system reinstated for the next round of national polls.
The caretaker system was scrapped by the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
