Polling stations are open in Egypt for the second and final round of a referendum on a controversial new constitution. The stations opened Saturday morning.

Unofficial results from last Saturday's first round of voting appeared to give a 57 percent approval for the new charter.

The measure has the support of President Mohamed Morsi's former party, the Muslim Brotherhood.

However, members of the liberal, secular and Christian opposition fear it will erode civil liberties because it increases the role of Islamic law and does not mention women's rights.

The proposal was approved by a largely Islamic committee last month after liberal and Christian members walked out, complaining their views were being ignored.
