Tokyo Markets Closed, Dollar Down

Japanese markets are closed Monday for a national holiday . In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 78.99 yen, down a tenth of a yen from late Friday. The Taipei market fell dipped four-tenths of a percent to close at 8,539.

Asian stock markets were mixed in early trading Friday. Tokyo’s Nikkei index gained four-tenths of a percent , to close at 9,974. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index lost three-tenths of a percent , to end at 21,875. Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Shanghai, Taipei and Manila. Markets closed lower in Sydney and Wellington. Tokyo Markets Up, Dollar Flat

Japanese share prices ended higher Friday, while the dollar was flat against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index gained four-tenths of a percent , to close at 9,974. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 79.19 yen, up slightly from late Thursday. The Taipei market gained 1.10 percent , to close at 8,575.
