Tokyo Markets Closed, Dollar Unchanged

Tokyo markets were closed Monday for a national holiday , while the dollar was stable against the yen. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.74 yen, up a fraction from late Friday. The Taipei market rose 1.12 percent , to close at 7,212.

Asian stock markets were higher in early trading Friday. Tokyo’s Nikkei index gained one percent , to close at 8,605. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index climbed 3.11 percent , to end at 17,707. Tokyo Stocks Up, Dollar Down

Japanese share prices ended higher Friday, while the dollar slipped against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index gained one percent , to close at 8,605. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.65 yen, down slightly from late Thursday. The Taipei market rose 1.12 percent , to close at 7,212.

Asian stock markets closed higher Thursday. Tokyo’s Nikkei index gained nearly one and three-quarters percent to finish at 8,522. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose nearly five and three-quarters percent to finish the day’s trading at 17,172. Share prices were also higher in Manila, Sydney, Taipei and Wellington. Japanese markets closed lower Tuesday, while the U.S. dollar is trading unchanged against the Japanese yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index lost just over one percent to finish at 8,456. The dollar was selling at 76.63 yen. The Taipei market finished at 7,048, up nearly one-half of one-percent .
