Tokyo Stocks Up, Dollar Down

Japanese share prices ended higher Monday, while the dollar dipped against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index rose one percent to close at 9,965. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.72 yen, down one-tenth of a yen from late Friday. The Taipei market closed up four-tenths of a percent to close at 8,775.

Japanese share prices ended higher Friday, while the dollar was flat against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index gained half a percent , to close at 9,868. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.70 yen, up slightly from late Thursday. Gold was trading at $1,493.90 an ounce.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.60 yen, nearly unchanged from late Thursday. The Taipei market gained one percent , to close at 8,740.
