European stock markets closed sharply lower on Monday. London’s Financial Times 100 index lost 3.6 percent to end at 5,103. Asian stock markets were sharply lower in trading Monday. Tokyo’s Nikkei index dropped nearly two percent , to close at 8,784. Japan Share Prices Fall

Japanese share prices plunged Monday, while the dollar rose against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index dropped nearly two percent , to close at 8,784. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.84 yen, up a fraction from late Friday. Gold was trading at $1899.65 an ounce.

Japanese share prices plunged Monday, while the dollar fell against the yen. Tokyo’s Nikkei index dropped nearly two percent , to close at 8,784. In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 76.74 yen, down a fraction from late Friday. The Taipei market lost 2.65 percent , to finish at 7,552.
