My boxing buddy Nnamdi “Hollywood” Moweta is packing his bags for Las Vegas and Saturday night’s world championship bantamweight bout between IBF titleholder Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko of Ghana and undefeated Mexican Abner Mares. Nnamdi says all pre-fight indicators point to an action-packed encounter. The Voice of America’s undisputed “Reigning Prince of Pugilistics” says Agbeko (28-2, 22 KOs) and Mares (21-0-1, 13 KOs) both have plenty of punching power, and they’re each capable of putting the other down for the count. Let’s meet both boxers now in this video:

Agbeko versus Mares was originally scheduled for April, but just days before the fight, King Kong pulled out with a back injury. The 31-year-old Ghanaian is grateful for the chance to fight Mares, and in a pre-fight news conference, he thanked his veteran promoter, Don King, for giving him time to heal.

As Nnamdi Moweta prepares to take his ringside seat at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Vegas, he says this could be a career-defining fight for both Agbeko and Mares. Nnamdi says they are each motivated by the prospect of bigger paydays and more exposure, as well as bringing pride to their respective countries of Ghana and Mexico.
