The Daily Pennsylvanian reports that the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) and the U.S. State Department will offer online courses for English learners.

The courses target advanced beginner and intermediate learners, and focus on five areas of concentration, or study areas. Business and Entrepreneurship, English for Journalism, Career Development, Media Literacy and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The five courses are offered by Coursera, an online learning platform, under those names.

So far, the program offered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has enrolled 33,000 students from 161 countries.

Business and Entrepreneurship has concluded; English for Journalism is underway. But Career Development will be offered in November, while Media Literacy and STEM will be available in 2017.

The course presents video lectures with subtitled bullet points and visuals. Class discussion follows.

And they are free.
