Secretary of State John Kerry declared “Daesh’s days are numbered” and delivered a strong endorsement of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
Kerry made a quick, previously unannounced visit to Baghdad Friday to meet with Iraq’s prime minister and the prime minister of the autonomous Kurdistan government, Nechrivan Barzani. Kerry underscored the U.S. commitment to the fight against the so-called Islamic State and helping Iraq rebuild its economy and infrastructure.
He outlined the success of the U.S.-led coalition in shrinking the footprint of the Islamic State, also known as Daesh.
Kerry said the entire Obama administration backs the work of Iraq’s prime minister:
Kerry is on a week-long tour of the Middle East and Asia that will include a visit to Hiroshima, Japan, for a Group of Seven (G-7) summit.
