Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom Company said Monday it will let a television station run by China’s outlawed Falungong movement use its new satellite, reversing an earlier decision to end their contract.
The company said last month that there would not be enough bandwidth on the new ST-2 satellite for the Falungong station, triggering anger from the movement, press freedom activists and U.S. lawmakers.
The Falungong said it suspected the company had given in to pressure from China, which banned the spiritual movement in 1999 as an “evil cult.”
