Japanese share prices ended higher Friday, while the dollar was flat against the yen.

Tokyo's Nikkei index gained half a percent , to close at 9,868.

In currency trading, the dollar was selling at 80.70 yen, up slightly from late Thursday.

Gold was trading at $1,493.90 an ounce.
