US Stocks Rise

U.S. stock market indexes rose in Friday's trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose three-tenths of a percent to close at 12,480. The S&P 500 gained six-tenths of a percent to end at 1,316 and the NASDAQ jumped one percent to hit 2,790.

European stock markets were mixed at the close of trading. London's Financial Times 100 index slipped less than one-tenth of a percent to end at 5,844. The CAC-40 in Paris lost almost seven-tenths of a percent to finish at 3,727. And the DAX in Frankfurt advanced almost one-tenth of a percent to settle at 7,220.

Earlier in Asia, In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index gained four-tenths of a percent , to close at 9,974. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost three-tenths of a percent , to end at 21,875.

The price of gold gained more than $6 to trade at $1,593.75 an ounce.

The dollar was lower against the yen and the euro.
