A U.S. man who carried out a fatal shooting spree in retaliation for the 2001 terrorist attacks is scheduled to be executed in the southern state of Texas Wednesday.

Mark Stroman has a request before the U.S. Supreme Court to stop his execution. But if it fails to go through, by the end of the day, he will be dead.

In the days and weeks after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Stroman killed two men and injured a third in three separate shootings. The self-described white supremacist said he targeted people he thought to be Middle Eastern. The victims who died were a Pakistani native and an Indian man. The wounded victim was a Bangladeshi.

Stroman was prosecuted for the final attack, the murder of the Indian man, a 49-year-old clerk at a gas station.

The surviving victim, Rais Bhuiyan, who was blinded in one eye when Stroman shot him in the face, has argued against the death sentence, saying his Muslim faith calls for forgiveness.

Stroman's execution would be the eighth in Texas this year.
