Officials in central Afghanistan say at least six suicide bombers have attacked the compound of a provincial governor.

Parwan Governor Abdul Basir Salangi told a television news outlet that he remains inside the compound.

Authorities say several blasts have been heard since the insurgents began their attack Sunday.

Parwan is about 50 kilometers north of Afghanistan's capital, Kabul.
