US Stocks Close Mixed

U.S. stocks were mixed at closing Wednesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose a fraction of a percent to close at 11,410.

The S&P 500 was up one tenth of a percent at 1,194.

The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped one-half percent to end the day at 2,511.

European stock indexes also closed mixed.

London's Financial Times index closed down one-half percent to end at 5,332. The CAC-40 index in Paris finished up seven-tenths of a percent to close at 3,254. The DAX index in Frankfurt lost eight-tenths of one percent to end the day's trading at 5,949.

In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei index lost just over one-half of one percent to finish at 9,057.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained nearly four-tenths of one percent to finish the day's trading at 20,289.

Gold settled at $1,791.20 per ounce, up $8.80 from Tuesday.

The dollar was lower against the euro and the yen.
