South Korean authorities say five people were killed and two were injured Saturday afternoon when an explosion destroyed a lab at a chemical textile company.

Officials say the victims were working with flammable chemicals at the TK Chemical Corporation in the city of Gumi, southeast of Seoul, when the explosion occurred. The three-story steel and cement laboratory building was gutted by fire.

An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the blast.
