A Russian court has ruled that a pro-Chechen separatist website is extremist and demanded Internet providers stop carrying it.

The chief prosecutor's office said Monday that kavkazcenter.com incites terrorism and religious hatred.

The website operates out of Finland, and Russian officials have no authority to shut it down. But officials can jail Russians looking at the site or distributing materials from kavkazcenter.com.

Finland has refused Russian requests to close it.

Russian authorities say Chechen extremists have used the website to recruit young Islamic militants and also to claim responsibility for numerous terrorist attacks.
