Pakistani officials say gunmen attacked a schoolbus in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday, killing at least three children and the driver.

Police say the militants opened fire on the school bus after unsuccesfully firing a rocket at it.

There is no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which took place outside Peshawar, near the country's volatile border with Afghanistan.

The area is a known stronghold for al-Qaida and other militant groups.
