Chinese officials confirmed Saturday that one pilot was killed in a jet fighter crash at an air show outside the northern city Xi'an Friday.
State television showed the JH-7 “Flying Leopard” fighter-bomber plunging to the ground and exploding during a demonstration Friday morning. One pilot ejected and landed safely.
Jin Qiansheng, an official with the air show, told the official Xinhua news agency that the pilot who was killed was seated in the front of the two-seater.
Jin said there were no injuries on the ground. An investigation of the crash is under way.
