A coal mine collapsed Friday in northern China, trapping at least 12 workers in the latest accident in the industry.
Chinese official news agency Xinhua reported that the mine is in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, but did not give other information.
Coal mine accidents are common in China, where work safety standards are lax and corrupted officials fail to close mines that operate illegally. Under public pressure in recent years, the government has worked to enforce better safety rules.
China relies on coal for most of its energy needs.
