The United States has decided to stop providing certain information to Russia that is required under an arms agreement, after years of trying to get Moscow to comply with the treaty.

The U.S. announced Tuesday in Vienna that it will stop providing data to Russia as called for in the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the United States and its NATO allies have tried since 2007 to find a diplomatic solution, following Russia's decision to cease implementation of the CFE Treaty. She said Russia has refused to accept inspections and stopped providing information on its military forces to other parties of the treaty, as required under the pact.

The statement said the United States will resume full treaty implementation regarding Russia if Moscow resumes implementation of its treaty obligations.
