China announced Friday that it is starting an investigation of U.S. renewable energy policies and whether they hurt foreign manufacturers.

The Commerce Ministry said it will look into whether U.S. policies improperly favor American manufacturers of solar, wind and other technology and constitute a trade barrier.

The announcement comes after the U.S. Commerce Department said earlier this month that it would investigate whether Chinese manufacturers of solar panels are receiving improper government subsidies.
