A South Korean civic group on Friday delivered 180 tons of flour to North Korea, the first food aid from the South since the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il last month.
Representatives of the Korea Peace Foundation crossed the heavily fortified border accompanied by eight truckloads of flour.
The food is to be delivered to an elementary school, a daycare center and a kindergarten in the western province of North Hwanghae.
Foundation officials said two of the KPF representatives will stay in the North until Saturday, to ensure the aid reaches the intended recipients.
