Senegal's top court has confirmed its ruling that President Abdoulaye Wade can run for a third term.
The Constitutional Council said late Sunday Mr. Wade's candidacy is valid, following an initial ruling Friday that sparked opposition protests.
An amendment to Senegal's constitution limits presidents to serving two terms, but Mr. Wade has argued it does not apply to him since the measure was not in place when he was first elected in 2000.
The court on Sunday also rejected an appeal by music icon Youssou Ndour, who was ruled ineligible to run for president because he did not turn in enough valid signatures on his petition.
Opposition groups have vowed to continue their “resistance” to Mr. Wade's re-election bid.
