Demand for Chinese goods rose more than 11 percent in June compared to last year, but failed to keep pace with the level set in May.
China's General Administration of Customs said Tuesday that exports in June reached $180 billion. Imports during the same period rose 6.3 percent over last year to $148 billion.
In May, China's exports rose by an annual rate of more than 15 percent.
A Customs official said the decrease to about 11 percent in June was due in part to the U.S. economy having not fully recovered.
China says total trade is up 8 percent so far this year at a value of nearly $2 trillion.
