Stephen Kiprotich of Uganda has won the 2012 Olympic men's marathon in London.
Kiprotich finished the course Sunday in two hours, eight minutes, and one second, 26 seconds ahead of runner-up Abel Kirui of Kenya.
Kiprtoch surged ahead of Kirui and Kenya's Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich at mile 23 to take a lead he never relinquished.
The 23-year-old Kiprotich is the first Ugandan ever to win an Olympic marathon medal.
Kirui takes the silver medal, while Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich won the bronze.
